Responsibilities

Assists product development specialist and application engineers in collecting data on internal and competitive materials to better understand the physical properties and potential applications. Contributes to the business by helping to develop new products, assisting customers with their applications, and obtain automotive approvals.  One of the two primary technicians to operate the 25 and 40 MM twin screw.

  • Performs routine testing according to standard test procedures, (ASTM, ISO, etc.)
  • Assists in  the coordination of external and internal testing and data entry of samples for outdoor weathering.  Calibrate and maintains xenon arc equipment.
  • Complies with A2LA standards.
  • One of primary Operators of 25 and 40 MM twin screw extruders for product development.
  • Assist in setting up and operation of single screw extrusion and co-extrusion process.
  • Injection molding- molds plaques for physical testing.
  • Assists in physical testing lab
  • Assists in other applications development and testing tasks as directed by AD Engineers and R&D Laboratory Manager.
  • Provides additional project specific testing and processing to support Product Development Managers as business priorities dictate.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas.
  • Ensures documentation and timely communication of findings and observations to appropriate colleagues
  • Provides monthly input for Time Management System.
  • Assists in preventive maintenance on lab and auxiliary equipment.
  • Takes part in performing scheduled departmental safety audits and attends monthly safety meetings.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Associates Degree in Polymer/Plastics or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Must have the mechanical ability to run and troubleshoot extruders and operate various pieces of lab testing equipment.
  • Preferred 5 years or more experience in Extrusion and Quality Systems; (depending on formal education and basic knowledge of polymer chemistry).
