Responsibilities

The Technical Support Analyst monitors, supports, and maintains all technical activities as they relate to the iSeries, peripheral equipment, operating system software, and associated third party software. This person will resolve all technical issues, problems, and concerns on a timely basis and investigate, analyze, and recommend improvements in processes.

  • Maintains the appropriate vendor releases of operating systems.
  • Performance analysis for CPU utilization, interactive, batch and system interactive response time. Communication line utilization, DASD utilization, memory fault rates, etc.
  • Installs, tests, and maintains all other IBM licensed products, 3rd party software, and ERP package with all corresponding Windows server applications.
  • Communicates with users and department personnel for problem resolution.
  • Provides technical support for the iSeries platform coordinating resolutions with vendors, staff and technicians.
  • Administer disk storage utilization. Creates environments for test and production.
  • Evaluates and recommends software, hardware, peripherals equipment, changes and enhancements.
  • Supervises and has knowledge of all phases of updates and maintenance of the iSeries system (PTFs, backups, reporting, troubleshooting and new development).
  • Analysis, evaluation, recommendation and implementation of special projects to support growth of Teknor Apex’s infrastructure.
  • Responsible for the creation and execution of the Business Continuity plan.
  • Monitors, maintains and troubleshoots remote database journaling process and connectivity.
  • Maintains the software and technical publication libraries.
  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of Operation and Technical department documentation.
  • Instructs and trains department personnel on iSeries procedures and policies.
  • Sets up in-house education and training on new vender computer features.
  • Acts as an advisor to the programming and systems groups on specific problems.
  • Provides statistical reporting for budgetary purposes.
  • Interact with Operations regarding system functions (ie. backup, outages, etc.)
  • Performs as backup to the Change Management process.
  • Performs as backup to the Job Scheduling process.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent training
  • The position requires 3+ years of iSeries (AS/400) Technical Support experience
  • Work requires the application of a variety of procedures, policies, and/or precedents used in combination.  Frequently, the application of multiple technical activities is employed; thus, analytic ability and inductive thinking are required.
