    Responsibilities

    Teknor Apex Company has an opening for a Sr. Product Development Engineer at its Pawtucket, Rhode Island facility.

    • Plan, design and implement solutions for technically complex projects
    • Share account responsibility with Sales & Marketing by justifying R&D spending, prevent putting a lot of effort on projects that are non-strategic or have a very low probability of success
    • Take proactive steps to retain critical technical expertise
    • On a daily basis, develop, improve and customize products, formulas, processes and test methods
    • Work with the Technical Service Manager to translate customer developmental requirements into a finished product
    • Provide customer service on matters relating to product development and innovation
    • Play a key technical advisory role for colleagues in Marketing and Sales
    • Write technical papers and reports and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, formulas or tests, and update databases
    • Specify raw material requirements and establish product specification
    • Coordinate project activities between different functional groups, such as, corporate labs, external labs, product safety and intellectual property
    • On a daily basis, ensure Company safety procedures are being adhered to
    • Active use of project tools such as Sales Funnel, TM1, Movex, LSR, Dovico, and Accolade.

    Incidental domestic travel (up to 20% of time and overnight and non-overnight) is required for this position.

    Qualifications & Competencies

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
    • Two years post-Degree experience in the job or alternatively the above referenced education
    • Two years of experience in any occupation for a custom compounder of advanced polymer materials or for a manufacturer of plastics or plastics-based products where the applicant’s duties were:
      • On a daily basis, develop, improve and customize products, formulas, processes and test methods
      • Work with the Technical Service Manager to translate customer developmental requirements into a finished product
      • Provide customer service on matters relating to product development and innovation
      • Provide technical advice to support colleagues in Marketing and Sales
      • Write technical papers and reports and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, formulas or tests, and update databases
      • Specify raw material requirements and establish product specification
      • Coordinate project activities between different functional groups, such as, corporate labs, external labs, product safety and intellectual property
      • On a daily basis, ensure Company safety procedures are being adhered to
      • Active use of project tools such as Sales Funnel, TM1, Movex, LSR, Dovico, and Accolade.
    • All applicants also must have a working knowledge of the following:
      • Analytical techniquesDifferential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
      • Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)
      • Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Capillary Rheometry
      • Processing techniques - Injection Molding; Single Screw Extrusion
      • Twin screw compounding
