  • Overview

    Teknor Apex Tennessee Company located in Brownsville, TN is searching for a 2nd shift Utility Operator in our Nylon department. 


    1. Overall Job Functions
      1. Follow safety guidelines for all areas of the manufacturing facility and work safely at all times.
      2. Follow machine set up and cleanout requirements for assigned area.
      3. Must use good documentation practices.
      4. Must adhere to good housekeeping practices in assigned area.
      5. Follow all written and verbal instructions from Supervisors, Managers, or crewleader
    2. Grinding
      1. Starts machine and sets controls according to the process sheet.
      2. Run grinding operation in an efficient manner and monitor equipment for mechanical issues.
      3. Stage and Pull material based on 7 digit id numbers.
      4. Load box dumper with chunks to be ground.
      5. Disassemble empty Gaylord boxes and stack neatly for recycling or reuse.
      6. Clean magnets and observe finished boxes for non-metallic metals.
      7. Used scale to weigh boxes of ground material
      8. Use Movex label printing system to label materials with the correct 7 digit id numbers and weights.
      9. Move ground material to designated staging area for blending.
      10. Complete production paperwork during the shift and turn in completed paperwork at the end of the shift.


    1. Core Cutting
      1. Stage and pull materials based on a 7 digit ID number or PO number from supplier.
      2. Scan Cones of material to determine product type using poly chromix scanner
      3. Efficiently and safely operate Pierett Guillotine Cutter
      4. Efficiently and safely operate automatic despooler and keep filters clean.
      5. Manage scrap generated from process of cutting cores. Keep different types of packaging separated for recycling
      6. Load card board recycling trailer with materials used or staged by production.
      7. Correctly complete and turn in require daily production paperwork
      8. Stage cut material in designated area for use on production line.
      9. Load scrap pallets onto flat bed trailer for recycle.
      10. Load and unload hot house of Heat treated pallets.


    1. Blendo


    1. Pull and stage materials based on blend card.
    2. Verify Blendo has been cleaned properly from previous Blend.
    3. Load Blendo properly.
    4. Safely operate Blendo.
    5. Sample Blend from Blendo properly.
    6. Fill out all Blendo paperwork properly.
    7. Lock out Blendo properly.


    1. Tumble Drying


    1. Pull and stage material based on blend card.
    2. Load Tumble Dryer properly.
    3. Safely operate Tumble Dryer.
    4. Sample Blend from Tumble Dryer properly.
    5. Lock out Tumble Dryer properly.


    1. Bagging


    1. Pull and stage materials based on bagging sheet.
    2. Complete and verify all bagging line clean down procedures.
    3. Safely operate all bagging line equipment.
    4. Safely operate the box dumper equipment.
    5. Accurately report all bagging line production.


    1. Manufacturing Support


    1. Safely operate Bailer.
    2. Safely load card board trailer.


    1. General Housekeeping


    1. Perform general Housekeeping duties as directed by Supervisor or designee.
    2. Operate floor scrubber.


    Qualifications & Competencies

    1. Skill/Educational Requirements:
      1. Adhere to Safety Procedures.
      2. Good communications skills and interpret verbal instructions.
      3. Ability to perform basic math or use of a calculator.
      4. Maintain consistent quality using visual techniques and statistical process control.
      5. Must be able to using scanning system for inventory control.
      6. Must be able to use computer to print inventory ID labels.
      7. High School diploma or GED or two years of work at TA/Tennessee Company.
      8. Must have a valid driver’s license.


    1. Essential Physical Requirements of the Job:
      1. Ability to wear required Safety equipment.
      2. Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
      3. Must be able to bend, stoop and lean
      4. Must have good eye to hand coordination.
      5. Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
      6. Operates forklift and hand trucks safely and pass TA/Tennessee Forklift certification.
