    The Operations System Administrator’s role, under general supervision, will be to perform diversified duties required to install, move, maintain and support all IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems. This position will also observe and control the company’s multi-platform, multi-distributed environments for the purpose of uninterrupted data processing, interactive and batch processing, continuous system availability, and timely messaging for service impacting events.


    • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information; adhere to company security policies
    • Monitors System i activity; including job performance, job scheduler(s), tape rotation, save and restore operations, troubleshooting and performance monitoring
    • Operate and maintain peripheral equipment as required, including tape drives, hard disk drives, fax system, printers, and consoles
    • Working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment.
    • Performs tasks relating to Mimix, TurnOver, HelpSystems and BRMS; including patching, health checks, review and repair, and configuration modifications.
    • Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance of environments running the IBM i operating system; including complex operational issues, backup/recovery, communications and performance tuning.
    • Performs problem analysis and documentation, root-cause analysis, and create incident reports
    • Provides support for platform-specific technical tasks including operating system upgrades, installation       and configuration of various software packages, installation of patches and fixes (PTFs)
    • Evaluates and recommends software, hardware, peripherals equipment, changes and enhancements.
    • Ensure backup media is transferred to the appropriate off-site
    • Provides on-call support; previous experience providing IT support in a 24-hour operational environment preferred.
    • Acts as a liaison between Operations and programming / user groups on specific problems.
    • Participates with in-house education and training on new vender software/features
    • Participate in Disaster Recovery Tests
    • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Qualifications & Competencies

    • The position requires 4-6 years of related experience.
    • Associates degree or equivalent work experience.
    • Work requires the application of a variety of procedures, policies, and/or precedents used in combination.  Frequently, the application of multiple support activities is employed; thus, analytic ability and inductive thinking are required
    • This position requires originality and creative thinking in order to come up with new ideas, solve problems and plan ahead in case of failure.
